Welcome!
This website showcases the findings of Rosalie Warnock’s PhD research, completed in the School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London between September 2017 and January 2022.
Titled Navigating, Feeling and Living “SEND”: Parent and Practitioner Experiences of Raising Autistic Children at a Time of Austerity, Rosalie’s research examined how families with autistic children living in one London borough accessed special educational needs and disability (SEND) services and social welfare (“benefits”) support.
It is widely reported in the news and accepted by the Government that families are finding SEND support increasingly hard to access.Rosalie wanted to see if some families were finding it harder than others to get help – and if so, why. She also wanted to learn more about SEND professionals’ experiences of working in an overstretched SEND system.
Rosalie is now based in the Department of Geography at King’s College London, where she continues to work on sharing the findings of the project.
